But I must work, just as soon as I do this. So there now. (And, as an aside, it's snowing again. Bastards. This is how we do spring in the city of the lost. [sigh])

This is one that I took from [livejournal.com profile] lillith_knox.

RULES
1. Pick 10 of your favorite movies.
2. Go to IMDb and find a quote from each movie. (Note: I did not use IMDb for this, but relied on my own memory of the films in question.)
3. Post them here for everyone to guess.
4. Strike it out when someone guesses correctly, and put who guessed it and the movie.
5. NO GOOGLING/using IMDb search functions.
6. One movie guess at a time. Give people a chance to guess before you steal all of the awesome!

01) "Through dangers untold and hardships unnumbered, I have fought my way here to the castle beyond the goblin city to take back the child that you have stolen - for my will is as strong as yours and my kingdom as great!" Labyrinth, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] lordameth.
02) "Dear Diary: My teen-angst bullshit has a body count." Heathers, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] docjeed.
03) "At the time, I searched desperately inside myself for any memory of happiness. Now, fifty years later, I've realized that I was part of someone else's happiness. What a wonderful discovery!" After Life, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] alateaqoe.
04) "The spirit, or consciousness, soul, whatever you want to call it, it turns out the realm they inhabit is finite."
05) "And yet you spared, boy. I told you not to spare. Don't think you are a good man - the thought will spoil you."
06) "You ever wonder what the fuck martenizing is?" Jumpin' Jack Flash, guessed (effectively) by [livejournal.com profile] alateaqoe.
07) "What, I'm supposed to buy this shit? Two-thousand years and he can't find one broad to fit the bill? Come on, Dave, you must be doing something seriously wrong!" Big Trouble in Little China, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] foxxydancr.
08) "Now that we know who you are; I know who I am. I'm not a mistake!" Unbreakable, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] samsamsamantha.
09) "I won't play the sap for you no matter how much of me wants to! You killed Miles, and you're going over for it."
10) "'No married man kisses his wife like that.' Are you stoned?" Dogma, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] lordameth.

/wipes tears of pride from face.

Yay! It is the funniest line in the movie, so I'm very glad you remembered it. ;)

#2 is Heathers.

It is indeed. Well guessed, sir. One of my personal all-time faves.

One is Labyrinth.

Ten is awfully familiar, but it escapes me. They're on a plane, and our main character sees the man he wants to kill with a woman. Despite the fact that the man is wearing a ring, our main character insists that he couldn't be married to that woman, and that... Ah. Is it Dogma?

It is Dogma, but they're on a bus (at least, they are until Loki kills the man and the woman). For some reason, I expected you to guess #8.

Also, I just read your post. I'll be responding to it after I've thought it over a bit. Hope you're hanging in there on the other side of the world. =)

8 sounds awfully familiar, but I'm blanking. Sen to Chihiro has a lot to do with identities, with remembering and realizing who you are. But no one in that movie thinks of themselves as a mistake, do they?

As for my post, thank you for continuing to be supportive and helpful, for taking the time to give it thought, and to respond. I realize I can sound quite bitter sometimes, quite snarky, but I hope that none of my responses to your comments come across as being directly hostile towards you, your POV, or anything like that. It's not my intention. Thank you for continuing to be friendly and encouraging even as I continue to resist the straight and narrow path.

Nothing like some good angsty 80's movies. :-) Though I personally prefer Better Off Dead. I WANT MY TWO DOLLARS!

"Man... now it's a real shame when folks be throwing away a perfectly good white boy like that."

Don't mention it. You have a perfect right to be bitter and snarky. If you've been as clear about your career goals with advisers and mentors as you have been on lj and no one told you until now that getting an Art History degree was possibly what you needed to do... I'd be damn frustrated if it were me. So worry not, I know you're just justifiably peeved about the situation and not about what I have to say about it. And as for the straight and narrow - you have to do what's right for you, so don't feel bad about that either. I think I should just email you, if that's okay. I have a few questions to clarify your situation. Let me know, and I'll drop you a line.

Re: #8 - here's a hint: the quote continues, "Do you know how you can tell who the villain is in a comic book? He's the exact opposite of the hero, and most times they're friends like you and me."

Ah, that makes it easy. I recall that I was one of the few in my friends group who enjoyed that movie.

And #6 is either Barton Fink or--and this is my official guess--The Big Lebowski. :-)

Older than either of those, and not by the Cohen brothers.

Okay that second line sounded formilar enough for me to guess... So, I decided what my guess was, then quite frankly, I cheated to make sure it was right. And I was! Unbreakable.

Number 3 is from Afterlife. I know Number 6 too - but I won't say as it's against the rules. ;)

I knew you'd be the one to get #3. I posted it with impunity because I knew you'd get it. ;) And I'm going to credit #6 to you, too, since I doubt anyone else is going to chime - and I know you know that one front, back, and center.

Love you.
