Over lunch with the fabulous
foxxydancr, we briefly discussed some of next year's potentially incoming students. She noted that one of them, a medievalist, would be good for the department because he has facial piercings and stretched ears. I agreed that this would indeed be a good thing. She then mentioned that she'd also discussed the value of having a pierced grad student with others - giving as the reason the need to loosen this fairly conservative department up a bit. Apparently, at least two people countered that statement with, "Well, but there's Teva."
We laughed over that for a good five minutes.
