Rape: Not Just For Strangers.

sechan19I was reading a local news story about a man who was just convicted of killing his live-in girlfriend just now, and it really pissed me off. The victim, Kiva Gazaway, had been attempting to turn over a new leaf in her life and wanted to break with him because he was a convicted felon, a financial burden, and an all-around loser. When she told him this, his response was to attack her; to tie her up and rape her for 8+ hours; and, finally, to kill her and dump her body in a ravine.
Here's a quote from the newspaper on the trial outcome:
"The jury deliberated about 9 1/2 hours over two days before finding Johnson guilt of two counts of aggravated murder, and single counts each of kidnapping, a weapons violation, gross abuse of a corpse, grand theft and tampering with evidence in the April 2007 death of Kiva Gazaway. Johnson was acquitted of raping her."
I repeat:
"Johnson was acquitted of raping her."
Of course he was. After all, as we all know, we live in a world where it's not possible for a man to rape his wife or girlfriend. A woman who is a wife or a girlfriend always wants to have her significant other put his dick in her - even when she doesn't - that's why she got together with the guy in the first place.
This acquittal comes in spite of Johnson's confession - in which he admitted that he attacked Gazaway largely because she'd refused to have sex with him. It was for that reason that he dragged her into the bedroom and tied her hands and ankles to the bed. And once he'd done that to her, they had consensual sex. Because all women change their minds about whether or not they want to be fucked when a man forcibly binds them to a bed. That's what a jury of our peers felt, apparently. Otherwise why acquit?
I hate this world sometimes.
