I made the acquaintance of a very lovely young woman from Korea, Eunja, on the flight over. She and her husband work in Tokyo as dentists. We exchanged info in the hopes of getting together at some point for drinks or dinner. Our hour-long conversation toward the end of the flight was a great icebreaker for me. It felt awesome to be able to talk careers, make catty comments about other passengers (and their hellspawn), and suggest ways to get one's husband to do the heavy lifting at the baggage claim in Japanese. My grammar wasn't perfect, and I kept fluctuating between casual and polite verbal forms, but I got my meaning across and I understood fairly well. A good start.

Something that Eunja told me that I found very amusing was the fact that she discovered on her trip to California that many of the shirts she'd bought in Japan that feature English writing on them were not correct English. Apparently, she got a number of comments. We talked about how foreign language scripts (either English or Japanese/Chinese) tended to be trendy where they were perceived as exotic.

My friend B. met me at the terminal, and I grabbed some money (figuratively speaking) before we hopped the hotel shuttle. Then I had a quick shower, a quick dinner, and--lastly--a quick blog. Now I'll quickly snuggle into the blankets and a try to muddle through this totally hilarious Chinese B-movie. It looks like a Sci-fi Channel original in terms of its production... something that would star one of the London twins. As near as we can tell it's kind of about a group of warriors from hell and the badasses who are trying to stop them. The badasses might (or might not) be Shaolin monks. In wifebeaters. They keep being dead and then not dead. We're very confused, but we are also very amused.

That is all.
