In other news, there's an enjoyable story about a group of Dutch old master paintings seized during the Nazi occupation that have at last been returned to the rightful heirs. In addition to auctioning a number of the paintings (the family was awarded over 200 paintings in total) they will be organizing a traveling exhibit of the works - something that makes me very, very happy. Though I always applaud the results of such legal battles (when they aren't hooey, as they sometimes are), I often lament the family's ultimate decision to auction everything off in such a way that museums have no chance to acquire and show the works. I admire the von Saher family for taking a broad view of the situation and enabling the public to see some of the important pieces in the collection.
