sechan19: (morisot)
I had initially planned to have lunch with my friend Liguseul, who I met at KCP but who now lives in Kyoto, and then journey on to Gingakuji (the so-called Temple of the Silver Pavilion, which is not silver at all), but I wound up spending the whole day with Liguseul. We had lunch together at the start of our visit - cheap, tasty, filling... a winning combination - and had dinner together at the end of it - in an amusing western-infused diner that was okay.

In between we wandered the streets of downtown Kyoto, window shopping and sometimes actually shopping. (I acquired a record-busting five hilarious shirts... some for as little as $3.00. Score!) We discussed many things... Tokyo vs. Kyoto living, concepts of space and language, our different pursuits at college, and so forth. Liguseul is a truly amazing woman. Originally from Korea, she's learned Japanese to a level of near fluency in order to study at a Japanese University. She works part-time to support her endeavors: the quintessential starving student. The poor thing practically fell asleep at the dinner table - a testament to the difficulty of Japanese test season.

We have plans to meet again on Saturday before I return to Tokyo, and loads of ideas for how to get together regularly - either here in Kyoto or there in Tokyo - during my upcoming year.

'Tennyrate, I'll be seeing Gingakuji tomorrow. Or I might go to the Nomura Art Museum instead. I hear, from my Dutch roommate, that Gingakuji is currently under renovation, so I'm thinking I might skip it after all.

This is a short one... the day was long on fun, but quick in summation. ;>
