Day Twelve - In Transit.
Aug. 2nd, 2009 05:23 amOn the morning of my final day in Kyoto, I got up around eight and proceeded to pack up. I realized that I had managed to acquire eleven big art books during my stay in Kyoto, and that I would now have to carry those books home with me. As my body was still aching from all the hiking about, I did not look forward to this. But it had to be done.
I sent Liguseul a message that, because my backpack was so heavy, I would be heading straight to a cafe in the station area and would message her again from wherever I wound up. I cleaned up in my room, took my linens to the washroom, checked the online weather reports, and checked out.
The walk to the station was gruelling, but it could have been much worse. Shortly after I arrived at a cafe, a major thunderstorm erupted. (Tenjin-sama saying farewell?) I had missed walking in the driving rain by mere minutes. I got tea and a curry-wiener danish (no, really), and messaged Liguseul my location. To my extreme pride, the directions I supplied her with were sufficient for her to walk straight to the cafe from the bus stop.
We found a tonkatsu restaurant in the department store beneath the station. (What can I say, I love tonkatsu.) There we spent a very pleasant hour and half, munching on a delicious and plentiful set menu and chatting over various things.
Afterward, I caught the train for Tokyo - which tumbled through the rains, displaying beautiful views of the Japanese countryside along the way. I really love train rides - the longer the better - and it was nice to just relax, watch the scenery, and listen to music.
I got to the Tokyo hostel around 5pm, got some onigiri for dinner, and proceeded to veg out for the rest of the evening. Tried to get an early night in, but there were just too many people in the room... snoring, sleep talking in Portuguese... and I'm a way light sleeper... so. Yeah, hopefully tonight will be better.
