(30) Days of Music: Day 13
Sep. 29th, 2010 08:26 pmAnd be sure to wash behind your ears!
A song you sing in the shower
"Famous Blue Raincoat," Leonard Cohen.
The beauty of this song is completely in the subtext: in all the things that are bluntly, achingly said without ever being said. It's a song written from the perspective of age and experience, with an air of regret and contrition, and out of a profound sense of love and hate. It is the song of a man who's lived long, seen much, and learned something of true value at last. For a young woman to feel such a kinship with the words of this song is somehow pretentious, I suppose. Which is why this young woman keeps her rendition in the shower.
