I did think of you when I heard about the shooting - not because of the shooting but because it was relatd to tenure. The article you linked to is very interesting. The process that occurred with the post office actually started with the rise of tech. Tech companies invented the concept of "at will" employment, which was IMHO one of the main factors leading to the decline of labor in this country. Of course, Reagan was notoriously anti-labor and pro-corporate management - he broke the air traffic controllers union in addition to his negative impact on the post office. For all those who praise capitalism, look back to the England of Dickens - that was when the model was operating in its purest form - and it sucked to be a laborer.
