A song that reminds you of your mother
"Wondering Where the Lions Are," Bruce Cockburn.
My mother's my best friend for a lot of reasons: she's super smart, she's funny, she's a total badass... But perhaps the most obvious reason is that she understands me better than just about anyone else, and she really does seem to like what she sees. (Even the whiny, cranky bits.) We have a lot of little in-jokes and special memories, and one of them centers on the song "Wondering Where the Lions Are." See, Mom and I are both the type of people to go on kicks - you know, where you supersaturate yourself with a particular type of media - and one time when I was in high school we got fixated on this Bruce Cockburn song and wound up playing it over and over and over again. Usually in the car. It's still one of our special songs, and it probably always will be.
