You know what?

I just can't stand to watch anymore. As a historian, I know that all civilizations fall. But as a person, I never thought I'd be living through the opening stages of such a fall. The first domino has fallen. We now stand on a path that leads to back to serfdom and squalor.

The political discourse is dominated by anti-intellectuals and bigots. And while they spew their bile and hatred under the banner of free speech, to state the plain truth about them is to risk a loss of everything.

This country has become an ugly place.

There's no other way to describe it.

And I can't watch anymore.

I wish I had something deeper or more to say, but suffice it to say I agree. The anti-intellectualism in this country frightens me terribly, and will lead to our downfall if it continues and grows.

Well the alternative to watching is participating and honestly what is going on in Michigan ( http://michiganmessenger.com/47158/emergency-financial-manager-bill-on-the-verge-of-passage )worries me even more. This preparation for the end of democracy, such that we have it, saying the government can appoint people with the power to dissolve local governments and school districts, declare null and void any contract the government has entered into nullify union rights.
