While last Thursday was the department's official start of the term, wherein we had orientation, getting-to-know-yous, and a grand tour, etc., tomorrow is the start of classes.

I have to admit to a degree of trepidation this evening. The break is over and the work is about to begin. On the one hand, I've been waiting for this (longing for it), I know it's going to be incredible, and I'm terribly excited. On the other hand, I can't help wondering if I really have what it takes, I'm paranoid that I'll fail miserably, and I'm horribly nervous.

Japanese, easily my most nerve-wracking course, is the only one that begins tomorrow, although I do have other obligations - chief among them securing a carrel for the fine arts library (and absolutely must) and getting my keys, etc. I was going to sign up for the language test tomorrow as well, but though I'm relatively certain that I'll be taking the French test this semester I want to clear it with my adviser at our meeting on Thursday before I take any drastic measures. So that's that.

Tonight I have a few things to take care of, mainly the standard new town/new paperwork stuff. I thought I ought to at least fill out my dmv and voter registration forms, even though it will undoubtedly take me a while to get around to taking them where they need to go. Heh. I also want to look into the University's various gyms. I think that getting back into lap swim would be a very good idea for me on a number of levels. One, it's healthy. Two, it will give me something to do that is soothing. For the next month (or three) while I'm having my back to school panic attack (I had a similar one when I went back to finish my undergrad degree), I will really need those soothing activities to keep me steady.

Meanwhile, the house persists in coming together rather ahead of schedule, and I don't think it's unreasonable to project that I will be more or less moved in and settled by Thanksgiving - a welcome thought. And judging by the pleasant morning I passed with fellow new students this past Saturday, I might even have friends in this new town as well. Fancy that! When my office desk arrives next week, and I'm able to get the last of public area (living, dining, bath, kitchen) stuff squared away, I plan to invite the other new grads over for dinner.

And on it goes.
