In Harrison's case, Rooney said the player was trying to take his son to be baptized.

"What Jimmy Harrison was doing and how the incident occurred, what he was trying to do was really well worth it," Rooney said of Harrison's initial intent with his son. "He was doing something that was good, wanted to take his son to get baptized where he lived and things like that."

Ah, I see. Waving the magic wand of religion makes it OK - even justifiable and honorable - to perpetrate violence and abuse.

I am disgusted, too. Disgusted by this, and doubly disgusted by the fact that such an attitude is not only commonplace but considered righteous.

It's really demoralizing. The man kicked in her door and hit her in the face. How could anything every make that okay? I realize that sports in and of themselves are not bad, but the culture of sports sure does seem to attract a lot of unsavory stuff.
