sechan19California today joins Massachusetts as the only states in America to allow same-sex marriage. The California Supreme Court overturned a ban on same-sex marriage on the grounds that it was unconstitutional. CNN has more details.
Days like this I'm especially proud to be a Californian.
Also fun in the blogosphere today was this post on Pink Tentacle about the potential for an alien response (as early as 2015) to a message sent by the Japanese astronomer, Hirabayashi Hisashi, 25 years ago. The message included binary code that, if received and deciphered, will reveal thirteen images that show the known molecules, human DNA, an evolutionary chart, and other earth-related wonders.
Among my favorite information in the story was this bit:
"Strangely, one of the pictures sent to Altair includes the molecular formula for ethanol along with the kanji characters for kanpai (the Japanese toast of 'cheers!') and the English word 'TOAST.' 'I came up with that idea while drinking,' Hirabayashi playfully admits. 'The aliens probably won't understand that part.'"
Then again, they might. Uber-nerds like myself may remember just what kind of a night-life there was on Cissalda. 2015 might hold some adventure for us all... if the world as we know it doesn't end before that. Seven years is ample time for us to irrevocably fuck everything up, right?
But this is a good stuff post, so no more of that.
