Reunion in New City.
Aug. 25th, 2008 12:38 pmI hooked up with some dear friends from the program on Friday to go to the mandatory TA orientation that is offered by the school of Arts and Sciences. It wasn't my first choice activity for a beautiful Friday morning, but hanging out with at least part of the gang--come home soon
foxxydancr!--made it livable. Don't get me started on some of the ridiculous pointers they gave us for not crushing the egos of any precious little snowflakes, though. I was born to crush egos, yo. The great maker fashioned specifically with said aim in mind.
Being in the city again is interesting. It feels much like I hadn't left at all. The condo was intact and, because I had beautiful forethought in the spring, clean. I've settled in well, although I've been procrastinating on unpacking, and I am about to have a major problem with my bookcases, I think. Heh.
The first class of the term is tonight, and I meet with my adviser, K., tomorrow after our first seminar. Still no word on my TAship or my reading course. I won't find out about the latter until Wednesday, but I hope to have a schedule finalized by Friday. And I hope it enables me to have a three-day weekend. I lived without three-day weekends all last year because of my language classes, and I want to have at least one semester with a Friday or Monday that will enable me to blow town without a constricting deadline hanging over my head. If I'd wanted a five-day work week, I would have gotten a real job with real pay and everything.
