The Washington Post featured an interesting article last week on the current financial crisis--basically a compare and contrast of what is happening now with what happened in Japan in the early 1990s after their bubble burst. What I found most interesting was the notion, largely eclipsed in the mass-media's desire to scream doomsday, that this kind of economic stumble does not have to be the end of everything as we know it, and that a cool head and quick wits may win the day in the end. Yeah, it's gonna suck for a good number of years, but we might not have to start packing the big guns just yet.

Good food for thought, I felt.
