Unbeknownst to everyone, the power problems at the building involve more than a quick electric company fix. Apparently, the fallen tree actually ripped the power cables down from the building itself--creating an issue that must be dealt with by a hired electrician before the power company can rerun power lines to the building.

If we had known about this aspect of the problem immediately, it might have been solved by now. As it is, I discovered the situation by chance--when I came home from a party tonight to check on the situation and discovered a power company worker on site and asked some well-timed questions.

I'll be calling the building manager in the morning to ask for an electrician stat, although given that it is the weekend there's no telling how quickly (or how inexpensively) such an enterprise will be undertaken. I definitely see no hope of power before Monday, and I'm beginning to think that I might be waiting until the middle of next week.

While I realize that the investment of property will ultimately prove to have been worthwhile, right about now I really can't help feeling like I made a horrible mistake in buying instead of renting. It's one thing after another with this fucking building, our management representative is a joke, and I am about to lose it over this shit.

As if I didn't have enough things to concern me right now in the run up to my return to Japan in the fall. [sigh]

At least my friends rock and are taking good care of me. I've got the promise of internet, food, and warm showers for the foreseeable future, although I wonder if my neighbors are faring as well...
