So, at this point, I have received confirmation of all my funding for next year's study in Yokohama. I've also received and reviewed the handbook provided by the Center - which effectively informs me that I will be one broke ho for the duration. But I'll be in Japan, so who gives fuck, right? Still, I'm going to need to be very strategic about my living and utilities arrangements. Huzzah.
In other news, the Lotus Sutra paper is nearing completion. I reformulated the argument into something much more cohesive, and I think it's almost in a shape that will be submittable. There's still the question of function in an ancient bronze plaque (in the collection of the Hasedera at Nara), which could be easily solved if I read kanbun or classical Japanese to any degree of proficiency. I'm currently struggling to work my way through the classical Japanese translation of the inscription on the plaque, but I've been informed by my adviser NOT to invest too much time into this. She's real cute when she gets protective of my stress levels.
For now, I'm taking a break from that in order to begin whipping my apartment into shape. First up on the list is a bloodletting in the wardrobe. I intend to cut my clothing content by 50% before I begin packing for Japan. (I mean, really, I have thirty skirts hanging up in there - and I don't wear skirts.) I'm also doing a paper sweep. All of the articles that have accumulated from the past two years are going to be cataloged into a copy of Endnote and then shredded.
And then, when I get to California I can reread a whole bunch of them and make summaries of the ones I expect to need for my dissertation work. (Yay!) When I'm not going over vocabulary lists from the last two years of Japanese study, that is. (Yay!) Heh.
PS: California Friends - I booked my tickets today and will arrive around 9pm on Tuesday, the 16th of June. Be ready to party like it's 1999. ;>
