International Women's Day My Ass.
Mar. 10th, 2007 08:40 amThursday (March 8) was International Women's Day. Despite this important so-called milestone, much of the international community ignored it or directly worked against it.
In Iran, the government worked overtime to stop peaceful protesting against the nation's policies of sex discrimination and oppression.

Of course, Iran's behavior was somewhat to be expected. What happened yesterday in the International Community, however, Was extremely disturbing and infuriating. The UN backed off a resolution condemning sex-selective abortion and female infanticide after a number of nations applied pressure to stop it. Regular offenders like India and China are no surprise, but I'm having trouble understanding why a nation like Canada would put pressure on this kind of bill? Remind me not to invest in Canadian commerce any time soon. Bastards...

And on the home front, things aren't much better. The continued disintegration of the Duke-Lacrosse Rape case has setback both women's and minority's rights by backward leaps and bounds. I don't care what anyone says, that woman who accused those boys of rape has done tons of damage to future rape cases. For years women have struggled against prejudice in cases of rape. There are legions of people who love to forward the notion that women ask for it or that they tease their attackers and later falsely try to discredit them.
Remember the rape case that was denied because the woman wasn't wearing underwear? The case, she says? Because actually, complaining that the woman was wearing no underwear or sexy underwear is a typical defense. Just go to google and type in "rape dismissed underwear" for a number of cases where the underwear defense was used.
Well, now any strides we've made against that kind of bullshit can be wiped out. Glory, hallelujah.

And finally, more evidence that Zell Miller has done lost his motherfucking mind. Check out this video of Miller effectively complaining that abortion has reduced our military capacity. Yes, if only there were no Roe v. Wade we'd have more than enough canon fodder for George W. to continue running his glorious illegal war.
Gag me.
