I maintained a friendship before, during, and in the aftermath of a brief affair.
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
For the last couple of years I have resolved to give it my all, and I've been pretty good at keeping that resolution. This year I want to modify that resolution slighty, and so I vow to give it my almost-all and to save the rest for relaxation.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Yes. My cousin and his wife welcomed their beautiful daughter into the world this year.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
No. And thank goodness for that.
5. What countries did you visit?
Japan and South Korea.
6. What would you like to have in 2011 that you lacked in 2010?
Honest, heartfelt contentment.
7. What date from 2010 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
June 15. It's the day I left Yokohama... the day I returned "home."
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
I was invited to present my work at a professional conference.
9. What was your biggest failure?
I wasn't kind enough to myself.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Yes.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
Miniature, wind-up-horse riding figurines of the three unifiers of Japan.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, and Bill Maher.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Pretty much all politicians everywhere. Especially John Boehner, Eric Cantor, and Jack Kingston. And Glenn Beck, too, even though he's not a politician.
14. Where did most of your money go?
To my mortgage - as per usual.
15. What did you get really excited about?
Monsters, theories of memory and memorialization, and movie nights.
16. What song will always remind you of 2010?
"Use Somebody," Kings of Leon.

- i. happier or sadder? I think I'm in a holding pattern at present.
- ii. thinner or fatter? I think I'm in a holding pattern at present.

Sleeping.

Giving myself shit for not getting everything done immediately.
20. How did you spend Christmas?
Watching the "Doctor Who Stole Christmas" marathon with my mom.

Sherlock.

I don't waste my time hating.

Architecture in Helsinki, How to Destroy Angels, The The (rediscovered).

Progress.
