* the fact that I have made a bunch of really wonderful friends here in New City who care about me and have extended all kinds of much-needed support and sympathy.
* the fact that I have a bunch of really wonderful friends back in my hometown who have been totally here for me (above and beyond the call of duty) since the beginning.
* the fact that I have a calling, and that the work I do for that calling keeps my mind occupied and my headspace clear - for the most part. In the midst of this madness and pain, I have been edging closer and closer to a sense of what my dissertation topic is going to be, how exactly it's going to revolve around a visual subject matter, and how to make my MA thesis slot into the mix nicely.
* the fact that, even though I have done that, my adviser (who rocks beyond all possibility of expression) told me to remember that education - even that great bastion - must take a back seat to my taking care of me, and let me know that if I needed to extend some deadlines here and there to get through that was nothing to be ashamed of or sorry about.
* the fact that despite everything that's happened in the past year (and the cycle has slotted almost perfectly into a year - Grammy died one year ago today) I am still blessed with friends, family, and future to be envied.
And so it goes.
Thank you to everyone who has chimed in with support - either via blog or via email. I am truly awed, humbled, and grateful.
