A Tale of Two Pies.
Oct. 26th, 2007 02:48 pmI'm attending a party this evening - a potluck-type affair. I gave the situation a bit of thought beforehand, mentally going over the stores in my pantry, and decided that I would bring a pair of cherry pies because I had the makings for such and desserts might potentially be scarce. (Beer, main dishes, and sides sounded well-covered.)
But I failed to take into account two things: Number one - the fact that I have everything for two pies except flour! Number two - the fact that two pies cannot fit in the single pie tin that I presently possess.
[gulp]
The flour issue was easily dealt with. (God bless Hungry Jack instant buttermilk pancake mix... does in a pinch and no harm no foul.) The pie tin issue was not. Eventually, I coaxed pie #1 out of the tin (grudgingly, mind you) and onto a serving plate. It started off life as a very pretty pie, but now it looks rather the worse for wear. Flattened and fragmenting, it is verging on deconstruction, and I suspect it will have inadequacy issues when I sit it down next to the structuralist pie #2 that is presently baking to perfection in the oven.
But I'll let everyone at the party know what happened, that it was my fault, and that they mustn't take it out on pie #1 - who's really a lovely little fellow.
Woe to the unsuspecting person who hurts the feelings of pie #1!

Date: 2007-10-29 01:52 am (UTC)-I had lots of pork and veggies left.
-I had almost exactly as much beer as I'd started with. (And a huge bin full of empties! Apparently, I could in fact have gotten away with buying no beer whatsoever as people brought lots.)
-I was most disappointed that I had no more pie! ;-)
